J. Tex – Misery 180g Vinyl(12″) LIMITED 500 Copys

Looking back on summer 2008, Rob from Heptown Records and I had the idea of making a solo album of the music I had been playing on our road trips together the last few years. Rob and his great gang of volunteers, them selling Hot Rod magazines, blue jeans, t–shirts and music, we call it the “Heptown lifestyle”, and me playing the music. And we were selling my albums on these trips, meeting folks that loved the true country sound. We always had a place to stay and a warm beer to drink.

When possible we brought along my band, J.Tex & the Volunteers, but much too often the costs ran too high, so going solo or as a duo proved to be an inexpensive way of getting out there meeting folks, playing the songs and having great fun.

By 2008 J.Tex & the Volunteers had already made two albums with Heptown Records. This time we wanted to catch that special summer night feeling we had experienced, a feeling that includes music, dust, old-time cars and a great crowd. And to make it just right, we found the greatest little studio located in an old schoolhouse near Lund, Sweden. The studio is now known as “House on the Hill” with Carl Granberg as the man in charge.

These twelve songs were recorded in three days. I asked my best and oldest buddy, Frank Borg, bass/banjo player and singer-songwriter, to cross the sea that third and final day and join in on this album. Andi Almqvist, a Swedish singer-songwriter from Malmö and also a dear friend, came by, making the song “Union Army” sparkle with his voice and musical talent. To make the day just perfect, Svante Sjöblom joined the party and was thrown in on “One of these days”. All in all, this album was made in the true family & good friends way. I hope you will enjoy this album. And that not only this album, but all music you may listen to, will shine on you and make every day a better day.

Music Rules!

Untamed – Delicious Death… (180g vinyl)

Untamed – Delicious Death… (180g vinyl) 500 Ltd. Copys

After the two albums Eerie Stories (2003) and Strange Unknown (2005) – both on Heptown Records – The Untamed have prepared another journey into the darker sides of human behavior with the new album Delicious Death (2009). Recorded live in two sessions, at Delta Lab Studio and in the dark basement of Aelwiz Studios/Kizio Studio, in 5 days. Songs of murder and evil women, of death and dying and of crime and crying – and buying the guitar of your dreams …

This three-piece combo with Marco Burro on guitar and vocals, Helle Hellcat on bass and The Ghoul on drums are mixing garagepunk with rockabilly, blues and country, spicing it up with some instrumental antics on spoons, banjo and honky tonk piano, and blending it into a deliciously deadly cocktail of untamed spirits.

After numerous international shows with artists like The 5678’s, Mad Sin,The Nomads, Demented Are Go, Dick Dale, The Defectors, Powersolo, Billy Childish, and playing Roskilde Festival, Gutter Island Garagerock Festival, Popkomm -The Untamed is a band that knows how to please an audience hungry for rock’n roll.

President Fetch – Cruel Beats…Gently Slumbering (LP)

President Fetch – Cruel Beats…Gently Slumbering (LP)

To say that President Fetch is an institution in Danish punkrock is a gross understatement! This year, the Copenhagen boys celebrate their 20th anniversary with their 3rd album, “Cruel Beats…Gently Slumbering”, their first in 14 years. And they’ve never sounded more vital and fresh than now, slaying every competition on stages around the country. And believe me, I see close to 300 bands every year, but only a handful comes close to rival the live phenomenon that is President Fetch!

A lotta youngsters who never saw the band were in for a surprise last year (2006) at Gutter Island Festival, where President Fetch showed everyone who the undisputed rulers of Danish punkrock are! One could say the band is in their 3rd phase, music-wise, with wildman Molle as frontman and crazed energizer bunny. This phase is the one that takes no prisoners! Like good wine, the boys have aged gracefully and, by some ungodly influence, they seem more fit than any 18 year old hardcore kid.

I don’t know if they sold their souls to Beelzebub, but the 13 tracks on “Cruel Beats…Gently Slumbering” perfectly capture the energy of their legendary live performances, quite an accomplishment. To these ears, the album combines 3 of my favorite albums of all time; “Feel The Darkness” (Poison Idea), “Let There Be Rock” (AC/DC) and Turbonegro’s “Ass Cobra”. Hardcore/punkrock, rock’n’roll and hardrock all united in a sonic mushroom cloud packed with hearts, guts, balls and a swagger that only comes from perfecting your craft through decades of hard-earned r’n’r cred! Guest musicians include some well-respected peers from Baby Woodrose and On Trial.

There you have it: the Danish rock album of 2007 – “Cruel Beats…Gently Slumbering”!

Untamed – Strange Unknown (LP)

Untamed – Strange Unknown (LP)

Sequels are usually weaker than the original, but “Strange Unknown” improves on already documented truimphs and conquests as the thirteen rock’n’roll nitro parasites eat their way into your defenseless skull. The Untamed are seasoned creatures of the Copenhagen rock’n’roll and punkrock scene (The Burnouts, Hellvis Deadly, Jetsons etc.) but age sure hasn´t mellowed our funloving fiends. Nope, the sound is meaner, rawer and more carnivorous, literally, just listen to the first single “The Cannibal King”, a track so fierce Reverend Horton-Heat would’ve sold his soul and sideburns to write an equal.

Track listing:

SIDE A:

1. The Cannibal King

2. Villagers With Torches

3. Roadkill

4. The Coughin’ Killers

5. Postcard From The Grave

6. Tears In Dead Eyes

5. Monster Under My Bed

6. Don’t Be A Tease

7. The Cat Is Back!

Screamin’ Eric – Shake It! (LP)

Screamin’ Eric – Shake It! (LP)

SCREAMIN’ ERIC’s second album on HepTown records is once more filled with catchy songs played with shitloads of energy. But whereas the predecessor “Freak Show” was more one-dimensional in it’s sound and style, “Shake It” presents a broader selection of songs rooted in mid-sixties garage rock and soul stomp, punk rock of the late seventies and a touch of delta blues, mixed together to make contemporary but yet old-fashioned sing-along rock’n’roll. This is an album that kicks rock bands of the very land of mediocrity in the balls with it’s uncomplicated straightforwardness.

SCREAMIN’ ERIC made Lorenzo Woodrose of Baby Woodrose and Martin Budde of The Defectors participate in the making of this album, respectively laying down tracks with backing vocals/percussion and organ on a number of songs on “Shake It” – all with great result. The title song got it’s last finish from the backing vocals of Lorenzo, and it’s impossible not to yell along with the chorus of that song…

Track listing:

A-side:

1. I Couldn’t Care Less

2. Drive You Home

3. I Love It, I’ve Had It

4. Trailer Camp Blues

5. My Brain Is Gone

6. I’m A Fool

B-side:

7. Shake It!

8. What’s Wrong With You

9. Bad Boogeyman

10. She’s So Pretty

11. Won’t Let You Out Of My Sight

12. Little Girl
