Duck And Cover – The Pasadena Recordings – Heptown records – HTR045 – OUT NOW

Duck And Cover recorded this album at Wally Hersoms Wallyphonic Studio in Pasadena, CA. Tracks were recorded the old fashion way – live in the studio on vintage equipment. The Pasadena Recordings was produced by Wally Hersom, Dave “Pappy” Stuckey and D&C. Wally and Dave have both been a big part of the Western Swing and Rockabilly scene in LA for the last twenty years in bands such as Dave Stuckey’s Rhythm Gang, Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys and the Lucky Stars. The record holds eleven D&C originals and three cover songs, originally made famous by Hank Williams, Wanda Jackson and Johnny Burnette.

With roots in American melting pot of black and white music from the 1940’s and 1950’s, a period where rhythm, melody and style was in focus, D&C mixes their own special cocktail: One part Country, one part Boogie, one part Rock-a-billy, one part Hawaiian, – with a dash of Swing!

Duck And Cover was formed in August 2007 and have since then performed at various venues and festivals in Denmark and Sweden. Lead-vocalist and fiddle player Krestine Havemann took over from Johanne Mortensen in early 2009 and with a stage-personality like Miss Havemann, Duck and Cover have gained new potential to persue the direction which was set in The Pasadena Recordings. This april the band can be heard around Amsterdam and at the Rock around Turnhout festival in Belgium.

THE MEN is a MOD outfit formed out of four already established Swedish bands; The Sinners, The Girls, Thee Expression and Colubrids. Från tredje albumet “Four Good Men And True” och ges ut av Heptown Records i februari 2010. Liksom andra albumet är det producerat av Christoffer Lundquist och man har valt att göra en studio-platta med fler pålägg som ex harpsichord, klockspel, hammond, vibraphone, pianet, basmunspel, akustiska gitarrer mm.

Först ut nu i november kommer den tunga singeln “Pack Up Your Memories” tillsammans med en retrodoftande video filmad och klippt av fotografen Nils Bergendal och ljussatt av Martin Berglund. Man smög sig helt enkelt in på anrika Kulturen i Lund en sommarnatt, ställde upp podier och strålkastare och passade på att filma tre musikvideor!

After the two albums Eerie Stories (2003) and Strange Unknown (2005) – both on Heptown Records – The Untamed have prepared another journey into the darker sides of human behavior with the new album Delicious Death (2009). Recorded live in two sessions, at Delta Lab Studio and in the dark basement of Aelwiz Studios/Kizio Studio, in 5 days. Songs of murder and evil women, of death and dying and of crime and crying – and buying the guitar of your dreams …

This three-piece combo with Marco Burro on guitar and vocals, Helle Hellcat on bass and The Ghoul on drums are mixing garagepunk with rockabilly, blues and country, spicing it up with some instrumental antics on spoons, banjo and honky tonk piano, and blending it into a deliciously deadly cocktail of untamed spirits.

Looking back on summer 2008, Rob from Heptown Records and I had the idea of making a solo album of the music I had been playing on our road trips together the last few years. Rob and his great gang of volunteers, them selling Hot Rod magazines, blue jeans, t–shirts and music, we call it the “Heptown lifestyle”, and me playing the music. And we were selling my albums on these trips, meeting folks that loved the true country sound. We always had a place to stay and a warm beer to drink.

When possible we brought along my band, J.Tex & the Volunteers, but much too often the costs ran too high, so going solo or as a duo proved to be an inexpensive way of getting out there meeting folks, playing the songs and having great fun.

By 2008 J.Tex & the Volunteers had already made two albums with Heptown Records. This time we wanted to catch that special summer night feeling we had experienced, a feeling that includes music, dust, old-time cars and a great crowd. And to make it just right, we found the greatest little studio located in an old schoolhouse near Lund, Sweden. The studio is now known as “House on the Hill” with Carl Granberg as the man in charge.

These twelve songs were recorded in three days. I asked my best and oldest buddy, Frank Borg, bass/banjo player and singer-songwriter, to cross the sea that third and final day and join in on this album. Andi Almqvist, a Swedish singer-songwriter from Malmö and also a dear friend, came by, making the song “Union Army” sparkle with his voice and musical talent. To make the day just perfect, Svante Sjöblom joined the party and was thrown in on “One of these days”. All in all, this album was made in the true family & good friends way. I hope you will enjoy this album. And that not only this album, but all music you may listen to, will shine on you and make every day a better day.

Tænk på The Band`s albums fra sidst i 60erne/først i 70erne. Tænk på musik-lydsporet fra filmen O Brother Where Art Thou. Og tænk så på en dansk sanger/musiker, der med sin egen personlige vinkel, sit eget twist og touch og ikke mindst sit helt eget skæve glimt i øje og stemme graver dybt efter amerikansk musiks dybeste rødder og fisker flittigt i smeltediglen af country, rockabilly, blues, bluegrass, jazz, swing og oldtime musikken. Så tænker du på, så vil du for dit indre øre høre J. Tex & the Volunteers. J. Tex, sanger, sangskriver musiker, frontmanden i foretagendet er døbt Jens Einer Sorensen, bosat i København det meste af sit liv, men født 42 år siden i Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.

J. Tex & the Volunteers debuterede for 2 år siden med den DMA-Folk-nominerede CD ”Lost Between Clouds Of Tumbleweed And Space”.

Nu er 2`eren ”One Of These Days” klar med endnu en og denne gang bevægeder J. Tex & the Volunteers sig endnu dybere ned i både “the rural south”, det landlige syden af U.S.A.. og ind i sig selv. Og De kommer ud med en god halv snes sange, befolket med elskelige, kiksede bonderøve, som det går skidt i livet. Men som J. Tex (Jens Einer Sørensen) fremhæver. -Vi holder med de der fattige, kiksede typer, og prøver at skildre dem i mine løgnehistorier af sange med varme, humor, solidaritet og loyalitet.

-Jeg kan se mig selv mange steder i sangenes person-galleri og, jeg ved fra mig selv, at den bedste måde at overleve en ond og grusom verden er at kunne se sig selv udefra, kunne grine af sig selv.

Til det ny J. Tex & the Volunteers-album har Tex fundet èt af 80/90ernes store danske producer-navne, Kim Hüttel frem. Hüttel producerede i sine velmagstdage de største navne herhjemme, fx Johnny Madsens gennembrud Udenfor Sæsonen, Henning Stærks Dreams To Remember, CV Jørgensen I Det Muntre Hjørne, Flow My Firetear med Sort Sol og Kim Larsens Wisdom Is Sexy, alle de albums bærer Kim Hüttels navnetræk på omslagene. Men for små 10 år siden fik Kim Hüttel nok af musik-branchen og har siden holdt sig yderst diskret i baggrunden..Indtil han for nylig løb ind i J. Tex. Kim Hüttel skriver på coveret til One Of These Days, at mødet med J. Tex har givet ham gløden og kærligheden til musikken tilbage. Et af numrene på albummet, That`s What You Want er helt og holdent Hüttels produktion, ellers er han krediteret som “mixing producer” og ryster tamburin, spiller orgel og slår på en gede-klokke, en goatbell rundt omkring på One Of These Days.

I 3 af sangene på One Of These Days synger J. Tex sammen med country- og rockabilly-sangerinden, Lynda Kay fra Texas. Vi fandt Lynda Kay på MySpace, faldt for hendes stemme..og opdagede, at hun skulle synge i Malmø, så vi inviterede texanerinden til København. Hun sagde ja tak og blev hængede 3 dage under indspilningen af albummet hjemme i J. Tex´ lejlighed på Østerbro. Det resulterede blandt andet i en øm og dybfølt duet mellem Kay og J.Tex i Lynda Kay-balladen, All I Ever Wanted To Do. Bortset fra den, en Woodie Guthrie-sang, DoReMi og John Prines Paradise har J. Tex selv skrevet resten af sangene på One Of These Days.

J. Tex siger, at han på ”One Of These Days” for alvor har fundet sin egen stemme at synge med. Vi har også arbejdet flere måneder i bandet med det musikalske udtryk vi ønskede at pladen skulle fremstille. -Jeg glæder mig til, siger J. Tex, -at folk skal høre ”One Of The These Days”, som ikke mindst i kraft af Kim Hüttels gode ører er kommet til at lyde helt præcist som vi havde drømt om fortæller den 42 år gammel amerikansk fødte, i København bosatte urban cowboy.
